      Lear In Tulsa

      Written by Steven Lee Morris
      Directed by Carlos Lacamara

FEATURING Frank Collison, Donna Simone, Inger Tudor, Allison Blaize, Brian Graves, Noelle Mercer

In the midst of retiring, Lewis, an aging White progressive artistic director of a theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has cast a White actress to play Cordelia (Shakespeare’s Cinderella) in his swan song production of King Lear, which he’s both starring in and directing. Meanwhile, he’s cast Cordelia’s vile sisters with People of Color. When his incoming replacement to run the theater, a Black woman, points out that his obliviousness to this racist casting choice will likely stain his legacy, he panics. If they recast the role, what will Tulsa’s MAGA crowd do to his theater? And if he doesn’t . . . ?
