Prayer, hope and Clarence Darrow. Was it enough to save Gladys Sweet? Charged with first-degree murder in 1925 following a mob attack on her Detroit home that left one man dead, the 24-year-old wife and mother, an educated black woman, emerges from the shadows of her time determined to be seen and heard.

D. L. Patrick is a native Detroiter and a graduate of the Creative Writing program at NYU. She is known for her play Study In Black (a.k.a. The Study), which was produced by the Frank Silvera Writers Workshop, NYC, and AUDELCO-nominated. Her most recent work includes: Kingdom Come (Barter Theatre, 2024); Right Behind You (Black Motherhood and Parenting New Play Festival 2024; OnyxFest 2023); and …But Not Forgotten (The Fire This Time Festival, NYC, 2025). Her play, Eclipsed: The Sun, The Moon, and Gladys Atkinson Sweet, was selected for the Michigan Playwrights Festival 2024 and recently enjoyed a run at Theatre Nova in Ann Arbor, MI. D. L. is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, The Playwrights Group, NYC, and the Detroit Playwrights’ Lab.

Danna has been producing theatre in Los Angeles for over 40 years, including ten years as the Producing Director of The Hayworth Theatre. She has also worked in film development and continues to freelance as a script consultant, in addition to entering the audio world, producing, directing and writing for Audible, Wondery, and Simon & Schuster. Danna produced the last three seasons at The Road Theatre and, recently, The Civil Twilight at The Broadwater in Hollywood.
