SPF 11: And One More Thing…
An elderly woman messages a friend to meet her on a bench outside their retirement community for laughs and conversation. Some topics arise that by turn are funny, not so funny, and surprising.
Development History
“And One More Thing…” was written late last year in response to a theatre’s call for scripts for its “Naughty Readings Series”. Although not selected for that reading, it was produced in February of this year (2020) by the First Run Theatre in St. Louis. It was scheduled to have a second run in the St. Louis Theatre Crawl before the event was canceled due to the Pandemic.
After graduating with a degree in Theatre Arts from Humboldt State University I took a break from theatre that lasted 37 years. I wrote a one-act play titled, “A-List” and saw it produced in 2015 at the Barn Theatre in Montville, NJ”. A radio script version of “A-List” titled “Audit” was recorded by Radio Theatre Project in St. Petersburg, Florida and is available for listening through their website.
Other short plays have been produced in Wisconsin, Washington, New York City, Chicago and New Jersey. I am currently at work on a musical about the struggles of a young couple raising an autistic son.
Although “A-List” was my first play written to be produced, I actually wrote my first script twelve years earlier, in response to personals ad entitled “Struggling Actress seeks Number One Fan”. To impress the actress, I responded in the form of a comic script, fantasizing about a first meeting where she would be interviewing men. It worked. It got me the actress… It also got me married… Be careful what you write for.

Cate Caplin (Director) has produced, directed and choreographed over 200 productions and her work has been seen on television, in films, music videos, commercials and in theatrical venues world wide from the Paris Opera House to the Broadway Stage. She is a 34 times Regional and International Theatrical Ballroom Dance Champion, a published writer and an acting and dance coach. Cate wrote and directed her first feature film, Mating Dance which won an Accolade Award and she has been the recipient of a Garland Award, a Women In Theatre Red Carpet Award, multiple LA Stage Alliance Ovation, Eddon and Scenie Awards and an Award of Excellence from the LA Film Commission for her work as a Writer, Director, Choreographer and Producer. Cate is a Directing member of Actors Studio West, an Associate Member of SDC, and was honored to receive Playwright Arena’s “Lee Melville Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Los Angeles Theatre Community”
