SPF 11: The Border Troll Copy
Theo the Traveler has come a long way to reunite with a distant cousin. The only thing in Theo’s way is Buddy the Border Troll. Buddy won’t let anybody cross the border without answering three riddles. The riddles get increasingly more difficult until Theo is unable to answer. Theo is stuck at an impasse: Unable to move forward and unable to turn back.
Development History
The Border Troll was awarded Avalonia 7’s “Best Comedic One Act.”
Steven San Luis (he/him/his) is a poet and playwright living in Charleston, South Carolina. Steven was a guest writer and performer of poetry and monologues for Queer Lenses, an event by the LGBTQIA organization, Queer Asterisk, and he is a company member at Dancefx Charleston. In 2019, his short plays were produced at the Hand to Mouth Players Playwright/Director’s Workshop, the 2019 TANYS Festival, the North Park Playwright Festival and Boxfest Detroit. Steven’s ten minute comedy, Mime Stop was recently published in the 2020 Stage It! book.
Jacob David Smith studied TV/Film production at The University of Iowa and graduated from Cornell College with a degree in writing, Magna Cum Laude. Since moving to L.A., he has been working in both post production and production in film, television, online content, web series, and reality television.
Jacob’s post-production resume includes Discovery Channel, Original Productions, the Emmy Award-Winning Series The Deadliest Catch, Berring Sea Gold, Ax Men, Storage Wars, and Hell’s Dungeon.
Jacob has recently been awarded with the Best Screenwriting Award for his Film, Almost Lost, from the 100 Hour Film Race, Best Director of the TUNY awards in 2015, 2013, and 2012, and was nominated for the best Ensemble Stage Raw Award for 2019.
He has been commissioned to write feature and television scripts for TrioTV, Gem Media, Marasco Media, and best-selling author Gary R. Renard.
He was a Dirctors Lab West 2018 Scholarship Recipient, served as Artistic Director for Theatre Unleashed, and serves as resident director, and on the development team for Hold for Plane Pictures.
Jacob David Smith is represented as screenwriter and director by Emmy Award-Winner Darla Marasco of Marasco Management.
