According to the Chorus is a funny, nostalgic behind-the-scenes look at a pivotal period in the history of Broadway where women’s issues and the AIDS crisis play out through the everyday lives of Equity performers and union dressers.

Development
According to the Chorus received early support from a residency at the New Harmony Project. There were readings of individual scenes for FAB at The Barrow Group, with a staged workshop directed by Lori Wolter Hudson. Development and major revisions continued during an Access Theatre residency and the play was selected by Project Y for their reading series Epic Plays. Most recently New Circle Theatre Company presented an AEA laboratory workshop of the current version in 2019, directed by Chris Goutman. A full production was in the works when… 2020.

Arlene is the author of LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC and AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. Rubicon Theatre’s production of her play GULF VIEW DRIVE received the 2018 Ovation Award for Best Production. Credits include Actors Coop, B Street Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse, Florida Studio Theatre, Kitchen Theatre, and Washington Stage Guild. An alumna of New Dramatists and member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, New Circle Theatre Company, New Light Theatre Project and Honor Roll!, she is three-time winner of the Samuel French Short Play Festival, nine-time finalist for the Heideman Award, Francesca Primus Prize finalist, recipient of an EST/Sloan Commission and NYFA Fellowship. Residencies include the Lark, MacDowell Colony, SPACE at Ryder Farm and Yaddo. Hutton’s works have been presented at FringeNYC, Off- and Off-Off-Broadway, regionally, in London and at the Edinburgh Fringe. Her scripts are published by Dramatists Play Service, Playscripts and TRW. She teaches playwriting for The Barrow Group.

Christopher is an award-winning producer, director, and writer. In television, he has been recognized with fourteen Emmy nominations and five Emmys for his work as an executive producer and director. He has been nominated for a Directors Guild of America award four times, winning in 2010. He created and produced two series for the internet, In Turn and L.A. Diaries, which he also directed. He was inducted into the Silver Circle of NATAS/NY in November, 2018. In the theatre, he has directed in New York, Philadelphia and Florida, including productions at EST, NYC Fringe, the Harold Clurman Theatre and the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. He directed a workshop production of According to the Chorus at the New Circle Theatre Company. He received an MFA in Directing from Carnegie-Mellon University and is an Associate Professor in the Undergraduate Film and Television Department at NYU, where he heads the TV Area.
