“The Fugue” was originally produced by “The Tank Theatre” in New York, January 19 under its original name Real.

A woman reads a play about a composer writing a fugue and revisits her old instrument, questioning her life. Meanwhile, a composer dreams of a woman playing and writes a fugue, wishing to become her. Their identities blur as music weaves their stories together in a search for self.

From Rio to New York. From New York to LA. Over the past fifteen years, I’ve been writing stories that bridge worlds and touch hearts (cheesy, but true). Back home in Brazil, I had around twenty plays produced — from scrappy experimental pieces to one of the country’s biggest-ever musicals. In New York, I found my artistic home at The Tank, which produced two of my plays, earning a shout-out from Time Out, a mention in American Theatre Magazine, and a handful of very generous reviews. Offstage, I was Head Writer of Hulu’s live-action series How To Be a Carioca, Creator of Netflix’s Invisible City, and I’m currently developing an animated series for Disney+. I’m also writing a musical for Hugo Six Productions. Before that, I worked under an overall deal with Blue Sky Studios from 2019 until its closure in 2021. When I’m not telling stories for a living, I’m helping others do it free of charge — whether at my open-access Writers Club, tutoring underprivileged kids, or mentoring LGBTQ youth. Because stories told with heart don’t just describe reality — they make it.
