SYNOPSIS
In The Process, a young, first-grade teacher is forced to face an unthinkable horror. As her world slowly closes in, Sarah Chapman, through the persistence of a Counselor, struggles to separate reality from delusion as she relives the events of a specific day. As she unearths her demons, the audience is forced to confront a chilling threat from which no one is truly immune.

MEET YOUR PLAYWRIGHT
PETER MCDONOUGH is a member of the Dramatist’s Guild of America, Inc. He is honored to have The Process as one of the featured selections in “The Road Theatre’s Annual Summer Playwrights Festival 9”. The Process was also selected as a featured finalist in “The Labute New Theatre Festival 2018” at the St. Louis Actors’ Studio and is under consideration for production/development at The Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Other original works include a recently completed one-act drama entitled Side Effects, a full-length comedy named The Boondawgle Estate, the one-act drama Joint Chiefs, and a short screenplay called The Lot.
MEET YOUR DIRECTOR
SUZANNE HUNT is an actor, director and teacher. At the Road she directed a production of “Finding Fossils” by Ty DeMartino which earned several Scenie Awards including Outstanding Direction and Outstanding production and she has directed play readings for all 8 Summer Playwright’s Festivals.
An Interview with Playwright
1: What is the name of your play?
The Process
2: What was your first job in the theatre?
I built scenery for a dinner theater just outside of Chicago.
3: Do you ever model characters after real life people?
Yes. My characters are often hybrids of people I have interacted with throughout my life.
4: As an artist, what subjects tend to draw your interest?
I love seeing ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Those types of situations are real tests of character and I like to figure out what boils to the top when people are pressed.
5: Do you have other passions aside from playwriting?
My family. I adore my wife and son.
6: Are you currently working on any new projects?
I finished a new one-act in the spring and I am developing a full-length, cold war comedy set in the early 1960’s.
7: Here’s a fun question! What is your favorite dessert?
Key Lime Pie. When it’s done right, which is rare, it’s the perfect combination of sweet, tart and creamy. Hard to find but worth the effort.
8: Any acknowledgements or words of encouragement?
I appreciate the support of family and friends with my writing. Their feedback is priceless. Try, even if it’s hard.
