Set in the near future, two inmates, Juan and Fabienne, imprisoned in a “facility” by a fascist regime for polluting whiteness, struggle to stay alive. Their white guard, Mike, who took the job to feed his son, Daren, over time realizes the horror of what he’s doing. When told that Juan and Fabienne would be executed, he desperately tries to save them, rescuing only one Juan. Juan promises to save Daren while Mike stays to do what he can to prevent mass killing. Some time later Juan’s friend, Vivian, finds Daren in an alley, takes him in, and promises to fight against the regime.

Enrique Carrasco is thrilled to be part of the Road Theatre Company’s 17 Annual Summer Playwrights Festival. His short plays, Soccer Moms and It’s Okay, have been produced in New York and Chicago theatres. In 2025, Patriots was selected as a Second Rounder by the Austin Film Festival, and this year it has won Best Stage Play in multiple festivals. His recent screenplays, The Meet-Up and The Encounter, have garnered multiple festival awards, winning for Best Short Screen Play, Best Script/Writer, Best Drama Screenplay, and Best US Screenplay. Prior to devoting his time fully to writing for the stage and screen, he taught law at the University of Iowa, where he produced highly acclaimed plays based on cases he taught, and published a groundbreaking textbook on international finance using his skills as a playwright to make complex topics understandable. Enrique writes passionately about social justice, love, loss, and hope.

Andre G. Brown is an award-winning actor/educator dedicated to bold storytelling and collaborative performance. He holds graduate theatre degrees from NYU and the University of Washington. He recently directed Into the Woods at Long Beach City College, where he serves as an adjunct professor. Andre is also a lecturer at CSU Channel Islands, where he teaches speech and performance. His Road Theatre’s directorial credits include: True Adventures for Men by Steve Harper (Under Construction) and Blind Crest by Monet Hurst-Mendoza (SPF 2025). Selected acting credits include Otherkin (world premiere, Road Theatre, Los Angeles), The Great Privation (Theatre Exile, Philadelphia), Griswold (Bridge Street Theatre, New York), King Hedley II (A Noise Within, Pasadena), Blues for an Alabama Sky (UNC Chapel Hill), A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Harlem (Pittsburgh Public Theater), Choir Boy (DezArt Performs, Palm Springs), and the developmental workshop of The Rent Party (Seattle Rep). He has written three solo shows for public performance and continues to embrace writing as a means of self illumination, exposing the often unarticulated ruptures of life. He is also the creator and director of the feature-length documentary film A Soul Cleansing, which follows his deeply personal journey toward self-acceptance as a Black queer man raised within the largely homophobic institution of the Black church. Love is all we have.
