
Hope is a Bird
A shared obsession has led Katherine and Julius to career disaster. Katherine has lost a professorship. Julius is being hounded by animal rights activists. Now, the unlikely duo is hiding out in Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, awaiting the arrival of a bird long believed to be extinct – the Ivory-billed Woodpecker.
Dave Carley’s stage and radio plays have had over 500 productions across Canada, the United States, and around the world. These works often deal with human rights concerns and include Taking Liberties; The Last Liberal; and Twelve Hours. He has also adapted novels and stories by Margaret Atwood, Farley Mowat and Julio Cortazar. Dave’s docudrama Canadian Rajah had its Asian premiere in the fall of 2024 in Malaysia. Dave’s radio plays have been broadcast by NPR (USA); BBC (UK); CBC (Canada); and ABC (Australia). Stephen Tobolowsky has appeared in over 250 movies and television shows. He is best known for roles in Groundhog Day, Memento, Silicon Valley, Californication, Glee, The Goldbergs, and Norman Lear’s 2017 rendition of One Day at a Time. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Homer in Morning’s at Seven in 2002. He directed The Miss Firecracker Contest and The Lucky Spot at the Manhattan Theater Club in New York. In Los Angeles, he directed Fred Bailey’s award-winning production of The Bridgehead at the Ensemble Studio and Odyssey Theatres and wrote and directed the stage play and film of the cult hit Two Idiots in Hollywood.
